The Sector for New Food Technologies is responsible for creating policy and legislation regarding food and food ingredients produced with innovative technologies, food treated with ionizing radiation, food containing or composed of genetically modified organisms, as well as regarding natural mineral water. , spring water and other packaged water.
In the Sector, procedures for approval of products from these categories are carried out before they are placed on the market in the Republic of North Macedonia due to their specificity and effect on human health, such as:
- the procedure for approving food and food ingredients produced with innovative technologies
- procedure for approval of natural mineral waters, spring waters and other packaged waters
Two departments operate within the Sector for New Food Technologies:
- Department for genetically modified food
- Department for food produced with innovative technologies and ionizing radiation
